Govt. to announce election dates soon: Mandal

Deputy Prime Minister and Acting national president of the Nepal Sadbhawana Party Badri Prasad Mandal said Saturday that the government would work towards fixing the dates for the elections by holding consultations with all the political parties at the earliest possible.

“The elections will be held even if the Maoists do not wish to come forward and test their strength in the democratic exercise,” Mandal told reporters at his residence in Biratnagar.

He said the government was constantly willing to hold talks with the Maoists but they have not so far come forward with any official proposal.

In an apparent reference to the failure of the two day Mechi, Koshi bandh called by the terrorist outfit on January 3 and 4, Mandal said, “the overwhelming response to the civic felicitation programme hosted in Their Majesties honour clearly shows no force can encounter the popular wish of the people.”
