62 district presidents of Nepal Student Union (NSU), sister organization of Nepali Congress submitted a memorandum to party President Girija Prasad Koirala on Sunday to immediately revoke the decision of appointing ad-hoc committee of NSU.

The party central office had formed a 41-member ad hoc committee under Mahendra Sharma.

Students protested their appointment saying that most of the members, including chairman Sharma were known to be close to party vice-chairman Sushil Koirala and central committee member Sujata Koirala.

According to a memorandum handed to party president Koirala today, 62 district NSU presidents said that both the party decision and structure of the committee violates the organization’s statute and discourages students affiliated to the union.

They also charged that the ad hoc committee was formed under the influence of certain leaders to control the organization for their petty interests.

The NSU presidents, in the memorandum, also warned that they would not cooperate with the union and the party if their demand was not met.

Meanwhile, newly appointed vice-chairman Pradip Poudel expressed his dissatisfaction over the party decision of forming the committee and said that he would make his opinion public after holding discussions with party leaders.

However, newly nominated president Sharma claimed that the party decision was relevant and balanced in strengthening organization to intensify the ongoing movement for democracy.

Meanwhile, a section of the party, which had been demanding tabling of the report in the central working committee (CWC) before finalising the ad-hoc committee has expressed its displeasure at the developments.
