A one-man bench of the Supreme Court Monday dismissed a writ petition challenging the legality of the continuation of Taranath Ranabhatt and Chitralekha Yadav as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives despite the dissolution of parliament on May 22 last June.

Justice Chandra Prasad Parajuli dismissed the writ petition filed at the Supreme Court by a lawyer. An article in the constitution states clearly the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will continue in their posts until they file nominations for elections.

Dates for snap elections have not been announced.
