The Supreme Court Tuesday quashed the writ petition questioning the rationale behind the recent rule that has made helmets mandatory for pillion riders.

The single bench of Chief Justice Kedar Nath Upadahaya turned down the petition stating that the new regulation was in accordance with the Transportation Act 1991 and did not require any orders against the respondents.

The writ petition had been filed by Purnachandra Paudel.
