New Road Team (NRT) defeated Mahabir Club 3-1 while Sankata blanked out Machhindra Football Club (MFC) by a solitary goal in the day’s matches at the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football Tournament at Dashrath stadium.

Raj Kumar Ghising scored the lone goal in Sankata’s 1-0 win over Machhindra Football Club, while Sunil Subedi, Yugal Kishor Rai and Subash Rai scored in NRT’s 3-1 win over Mahabir Club, who got a goal from Babulal Hasda.

Sankata striker Raj Kumar Ghising scored in the second minute against MFC when he dribbled past two defenders before firing a powerful shot into the first bar. Machhindra, who brought in three Nigerian players to stay in ‘A’ Division after their dismal performance before the break, failed to threaten Sankata goalkeeper Sangeet Rajak. Their only chance came in the 63rd minute, but Rajak spectacularly saved Gudiya Rai’s powerful strike and then denied AM Michael with a fine save in the rebound.

In the other match, Sunil Subedi put NRT ahead in the 17th minute when he controlled a long pass supplied by Binod Lama, dodged a defender and fired home from close range. Yugal Kishor Rai doubled the tally in the 31st minute following a pass from Subedi. Mahabir pulled one back in the 32nd minute through Babulal Hasda, who found the net on Amar Pun’s cross inside the six-yard box. Subash Rai restored the two-goal lead in the first half injury time when his right-footed shot from 18 yards kissed the net.
