KATHMANDU: A meeting of the central working committee of the ruling Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Saturday took the government to task for its poor performance and the controversial decisions taken in recent days.

RPP spokesperson Roshan Karki told reporters following the meeting that the party was not happy with the performance of the government. “The RPP central committee believes the government has not been able to live up to the expectations of the people,” she said.

She said the RPP was in favour of early peace process rather than the general elections and the prime minister’s announcement to go for elections before the end of 2061 B.S was not reasonable.

“Elections come only after peace talks,” Karki said. She also revealed that the meeting flayed the controversial Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Control and Punishment) Ordinance, which was issued by the government recently.

The meeting also decided, by the majority, to stay in the Deuba-led government.

The RPP also opposed the demand for the reinstatement of the House of Representatives. “RPP is against the reinstatement demand,” Karki explained.

Recently, the CPN UML, one of the key ruling allies, had declared, after a meeting of the standing committee, that it was not against the idea of restoration of the parliament.

The RPP meeting also passed a political draft presented by Parasuram Khapung, a central committee member and formed a seven-member team under party chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana to manage the meeting of the Central Council scheduled to be held on December 6-7.

The Central Council meet is expected work out the party’s stand on major political issues including that of the Maoist problem.
