The dissident faction of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) on Wednesday demanded that party chairman Pashupati SJB Rana announce special convention to settle the policy debate and organisational issues.
Issuing a statement, RPP vice-chairman Padma Sundar Lawati, who leads the dissident group that has come to support the recent reshuffle of the Council of Ministers, urged party leadership to announce special general convention before December 30 on the basis of a memorandum signed by 527 general convention representatives which was submitted months earlier.
He said the special general convention is necessary to lead the party to a clear ideological direction and settle organisational matters. Lawati warned that the dissidents would hold a general convention if the party chairman fails to see to their demand.
He also accused the party establishment of failing to take decision over the impending municipal elections and informed that a letter outlining the demands of the dissident faction was registered at the party’s central office today.
While the RPP establishment remains undecided over the elections with a number of leaders favouring a boycott, the dissident group stands in favour of joining the electoral fray.
The RPP is caught in serious internal dispute after its six central leaders including Kamal Thapa, Roshan Karki and Bhuwan Pathank joined the royal cabinet early this month.
