KATHMANDU: Condemning the physical torture unleashed by the Maoists on the cadres of the People’s Front Nepal (PFN), the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the rebel party to immediately stop such atrocities.

“The commission denounces the inhuman act of torturing pregnant women, teachers and other people faithful to the People’s Front Nepal,” the rights watchdog said in a statement issued on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Maoists had given severe physical torture to eight women, piercing their body parts with drilling machines in Baglung. PFN vice-chairman Pari Thapa’s wife Rupa was one of the victims. The rebels had also beaten up several other villagers who opposed the act.

Saying that such barbaric attacks for having different political faith cannot, in anyway, be justifiable, the NHRC warned the Maoists not to repeat such activities in future.
