Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand Saturday hosted a luncheon meeting for central committee members of his Rashtriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) as dissidents charged the government of failure to deliver.
Newly elected party president Pashupati SJB Rana and former president Surya Bahadur Thapa were present on the occasion. Some central committee members have told Chand to either quit the party leadership or resign as premier.
Critics charge Chand of failure to give leadership to the government. Chand sought party support in a meeting that lasted for nearly three hours. Rana is trying to pacify Chand critics and to keep the reigns of government power inside the party by trying to mediate between Chand and his critics.
Rana is also trying mediate a rift between King Gyanendra and the Nepali Congress Party and the CPN-UML, two largest political parties in the kingdom as the parties threaten to launch an agitation against what they call the King’s retrogressive October 4 move to sack Prime Minster Sher Bahadur Deuba by assuming executive powers following a constitutional breakdown. Unity moves inside the RPP are continuing.
