Nabil Three Star Club (NTSC) was downed by Tata Football academy (TFA) 5-4 in a tie break in the semifinals of the Governors Gold Cup football tournament played today at Paljor Stadium, Gangtok, Sikkim.

NTSC played a superb game but lady luck favored TFA. It was all NTSC in the first half and they scored early in the 5th minute. Rookie Anil Gurung scored a sensational header capitalizing the cross off Santosh Shrestha.

TFA nearly leveled the scored through Vimal Pariyar but his shot was cleared by Santosh Gurung from the goalmouth. NTSC didn’t leave any space for the talented Indian side and was up by one goal at the interval.

In the second half, the game flowed back and forth. Anil Gurung almost scored his double in the 67th minute but his shot hit the bar. It was all NTSC till the 85th minute, when defender Santosh Gurung made a huge blunder to give Robert Lalthalma of TFA an easy shot for a goal.

Lalthalma’s left footed shot fooled NTSC’s goalie Upendra Man Singh and the scored was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation.

The extra time did not produce any results and the match went to a penalty shootout.

NTSC faltered with Surendra Tamang and Santosh Shahukhala missing the spot kicks giving TSA the victory. Pradeep Maharjan, Santosh Shrestha and Lok Bandu Gurung scored for NTSC while all four TSA players scored to earn the victory.
