Women wings of agitating seven political parties organized a protest rally in Pokhara demanding restoration of full-fledged democracy in the country.
Starting from Prithivi Chowk the rally passed through Naya Bazaar and Mahendrapul before turning into a corner meet at Chipledhunga, reports said.
The participants chanted slogans demanding restoration of democracy and press freedom.
Addressing the corner meet, chairperson of All Nepal Women’s Association, Bidhya Bhandari, asked the king to remain in his rightful place, adding, “The King has assumed all powers. This doesn’t happen in a democracy.”
“The King has brought autocratic rule to the country by removing peoples’ representatives from the government. The people from the Panchayat period are now ruling the country,” Bhandari said, adding, sooner or later, “People will overthrow autocracy.”
Echoing the voice of the seven political parties, central member of Nepal Women’s Association, Sharada Poudel, made it clear that the parties would not participate in the polls declared by the government.
The agitating seven political parties also said that they will boycott the election declared by the royal government.
Similarly, the central member of All Nepal Women’s Association, Sita Giri, said that all rights obtained after 1990 had been snatched away.
The alliance of seven political parties is also continuing protest against the February 1 takeover demanding restoration of total democracy and peace in the country.
