Top leader of Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has urged His Majesty King Gyanendra not to conduct any more experiments in the country.

Addressing a program organised by his party’s youth wing, Nepal Tarun Dal, in the capital Tuesday, Koirala claimed that all previous experiments by the King had failed. He said reinstatement of the dissolved parliament could build unity among all forces including the King.

He, however, warned that any game played by the King other than reinstatement of the dissolved parliament could result into the end of monarchy (in Nepal).

The octogenarian leader also criticized those who were demanding the constituent assembly. “This constitution was framed by people. No one has the right to declare it dead except the people,” Koirala declared.

Without naming his own party colleagues like Ram Chandra Poudel and Narahari Acharya, Koirala said some people within the NC are saying that the present constitution is dead. “It is nothing but (an example of) ‘knowledge without character,” he added.

Koirala further said that his foreign friends were pressurizing him to reconcile with the King. “But the meeting point is the parliament. The institution that can hold dialogue (with the rebels) representing the country is the parliament, not the Narayanhiti palace,” he added.
