A delegation of the Bhutanese Refugee Repatriation Support Group (BRRSG) Nepal which visited New Delhi to lobby international support for the repatriation of the over hundred thousand Bhutanese refugees in Nepal said Sunday that Nepal would have to withdraw from the bilateral process if the long overdue 12th round of talks failed to make headway for the repatriation of the refugees.
A BRRSG press statement said the Nepalese delegation represented by former Foreign Minister Shailendra Kumar Upadhyaya, former lawmaker and foreign policy expert Hiranyalal Shrestha and Pramod Kafle asked the European and North American diplomats and Indian intellectuals for their
active involvement so that Nepal does not have to resort to extreme steps.
Upadhyaya said in the statement that his team had found the international community taking keen interest on the refugee issue. In the statement the BRRSG has stated that speakers at an interaction
programme of India-Nepal Peoples’ Solidarity Forum expressed their solidarity in support of Nepal for the repatriation of the refugees.
The Indian speakers termed “undemocratic” the forceful act of the Indian security personnel of leaving the refugees near the Nepalese border.
