KATHMANDU: The Central Working Committee (CWC) meetings of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, the main allies of the five-party alliance, discussing their official stance regarding the King’s appointment of Sher Bahadur Deuba as prime minister is to continue Saturday with no formal decisions regarding the appointment today.
According to NC sources, all CWC members have not finished giving their views on the recent political development. Talking to Nepalnews, Spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC said, “There is not even a slight possibility of welcoming Wednesday’s move. We have regarded it a continuation of regression.”
He also said that his party would continue the street protests. When asked if the UML, the biggest ally in the alliance will remain in it, KC said, “We are together till now. They are also having a CWC meeting and decisions have not yet been made. However, I do not expect a split in the alliance.”
Likewise, the CWC meeting of the UML has also been adjourned till tomorrow on the party’s formal stance regarding the newly appointed prime minister.
However, the UML leaders are reported to have discussed either to be in Deuba’s government or support the government without ‘active involvement.’
Noteworthy, UML has already suspended the protests against ‘regression’ until a new party schedule is disclosed. However, the party has not formally decided to quit from the five-party alliance.
In the meantime, the agitation against ‘regression’ continued in the capital today with no involvement of UML cadres. Four other agitating parties took out a rally past the main streets of the capital and converged at Ratna Park.
The leaders of the four parties addressed the protesters saying, “protests will continue till the peoples’ rights are restored.”
They accused Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba of ‘surrendering to the Palace’.
