The Nepali Congress held an informal meeting of the Central Working Committee to discuss the Maoist demand of a constituent assembly Tuesday.

NC spokesperson Arjun Narsingh KC informed the issue of constituent assembly was raised in the meeting but it was not the only issue discussed. “We have been saying we are ready to discuss any option that can give an outlet to the country,” he said, adding, “The party is still working on its future moves.”

The meeting comes a day after the CPN-UML gave a formal nod to the demand of the constituent assembly. During a recent meeting, the majority of NC district leaders had advised the leadership to go for constituent assembly, which president Girija Prasad Koirala had turned down, categorically.

“As there are concerns that the party should adopt clear-cut polices, the advisory committee will soon come up with suggestions,” said Sushil Koirala, general secretary and head of the five-member advisory committee.

Meanwhile, four political parties continued their protests against ‘regression’ in the capital today. A rally was taken out from Ratna Park, which converged into a mass meeting again at the same place after passing through major thoroughfares in the city.

The district leaders of the four parties addressed the gathering.
