The ruling Nepali Congress called an emergency meeting of central working committee in Kathmandu Sunday morning to discuss the current political and security situation in the country following the Maoist attacks.
The meeting of the central working committee has been called on request of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, said a central committee member.
The emergency cabinet meeting has taken some strict measures to deal with Maoist rebels and maintain law and order in the country, which the Nepali Congress central working committee is expected to endorse, said a cabinet member as well as NC central committee member, who asked not to be named.
The government is expected to declare Maoists as terrorists and declare emergency in certain parts of the country, source close to Prime Minister’s office.
Meanwhile main opposition CPN-UML condemned the Maoist attack Friday night and the killing of policemen and army personnel. The powerful standing committee of CPN-UML asked Maoists to shun violence and resume peace talks to end the insurgency.
