Namche Bazaar of Solukhumbu district, one of the prominent tourist destinations, which is also main entry point to the Mt Everest base camp, is witnessing growing number of tourists these days thanks to the Maoist unilateral ceasefire as well as the suitable climate.
Reports quoting local tourism professionals said hotels and lodges in Namche and other townships are running packed since last few weeks while local stores selling curios, handicrafts and other local products are making good business.
Namche and other townships in Solukhumbu began witnessing crowds of tourists since mid-September when the tourism season usually starts here.
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) officials said they had no exact figure regarding the number of tourists visiting Namche this season but pointed out that there has been encouraging growth in tourist arrivals this season. “The Maoist ceasefire has certainly spurred tourist arrivals,” Sudhan Subedi, an NTB official, told Nepalnews.
Owing to the surge of visitors, airline companies have been conducting extra flights to Solukhumbu these days. 30 flights are being conducted to Lukla on a daily average, reports said.
Mid-September to November is considered the best time to visit this mountainous region.
