It is the other-way round. Maoist rebels have taken a policeman into custody in the southern town of Janakpur on charge of robbery, a newspaper report said.
According to Saturday’s Kantipur daily, Maoist rebels have taken Santosh Kumar Paswan, a policeman stationed at the Regional Police Unit Office at Janakpur, after he allegedly robbed Rs 42,000 (approx. USD 600) from one Biswonath Saha from ward no. 13 of Janakpur municipality.
A local manpower agent, Usman Kawari—who had failed to secure a job to local youths in the Gulf countries as promised– had returned the money to Saha through a mediator. Policeman Paswan, however, had snatched the money away from the hands of Saha and fled, according to the news report. He was later nabbed by the rebels.
Paswan’s whereabouts remain unknown.
