One Maoist insurgent was killed in a security action at Khalte area of Taplejung district on Tuesday.
A statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relation (DPR) of the Royal Nepalese Army said that Maoist area committee member Bishnu Manange was killed in a retaliatory action after his group opened fire at a regular security patrol.
One pistol, a pressure cooker bomb, five socket bombs and bullets were recovered from the incident site, DPR further said.
The incident occurred even as the three-month long unilateral ceasefire declared by the CPN (Maoist) is still in effect.
Meanwhile, at least 80 Maoists have surrendered to the security forces and the district administrations in Rautahat, Gulmi and Okhadhunga districts.
According to state-owned Radio Nepal, 70 Maoists including one of their district leaders surrendered before the district administration of Rautahat on Tuesday.
Similarly, DPR said nine Maoists surrendered before the security forces in Gulmi district on Monday while an assistant company commander named Tika Bahadur Khatri alias Mahesh who was working in Okhaldhunga district announced to give up armed activities on Sunday.
