After meeting five prominent politicians of different parties following his first public appearance in seven years, chief Maoist negotiator Dr. Baburam Bhattarai said Tuesday he was hopeful that an amicable solution to the political uncertainty in the country could be worked out.
Dr. Bhattarai in his meeting with Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) President Pashupati Shumsher Rana agreed in principle to develop a joint mechanism directed at narrowing the misunderstandings between the two parties.
“The proposed joint mechanism would help to ward off hitches that could surface while proceeding to translate the cease-fire into lasting peace,” Rana said. Other members of the Maoist negotiating team who met Rana were Ram Bahadur Thapa (Badal), Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Deb Gurung and Matrika Yadav.
Similarly those who were present during the talks on behalf of RPP were central members Kamal Thapa, Jogmehar Shrestha and Deepak Bohara. The RPP central members had requested Dr. Bhattarai to clarify why his party had laid so much emphasis on the need to go for the elections of Constituent Assembly.
Meanwhile during Dr. Bhattarai’s meeting with the leaders of the Nepal Sadbhawana party (NSP), NSP leaders expressed their support to the demand of the Maoists for a Constituent Assembly. The discussions between the Maoists and the NSP leaders was held at the residence of Hridesh Tripathi. Tripathi told the media that the Maoists seem to be quite serious about the proposed peace talks.
Similarly, the Maoist negotiating team also met with the leaders of the Nepal Workers’ And Peasants’ Party (NWPP). During the meeting NWPP President Narayanman Bijukakchaya reiterated his earlier stance for the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives and formation of all party government.
He viewed that the all-party government would call the round table conference and accordingly work towards forming an interim government including the Maoists. The interim government would then work to address the political issues in the country, Bijukakchaya told the Maoist negotiators. nepalnews.com am April 2
