King receives tika from Kumari

On the concluding day of Indrajatra, His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev received tika from Kumari, the living goddess, in Basantapur Thursday.

It is the first time that His Majesty Gyanendra received tika from Kumari as the King of Nepal. It is also the first time for the present Kumari to have given tika to the King as she was chosen as Kumari this year only.Other members of the Royal family  also received tika from Kumari.

Indrajatra is the festival of Lord Indra, God of rain. This festival is celebrated by worshipping Lord Indra with the hope that weather will be favourable and crops will be good. Indrajatra concluded today by demolishing a wooden pole which had been installed 15 days ago to begin the Indrajatra festival.

Indra Jatra has been celebrated in the Kathmandu Valley for more than 1000 years.
