The Israeli government has offered to conduct its own investigation into the chemical fertilizer scam by Chatur Raj Bhatta, the managing director of Agricultural Implements Corporation, and his son, according to Monday’s dailies.
According to the reports, concerned authorities at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs have sought the opinion of the Attorney General whether a foreign government can probe corruption scams here.
The Office of the Attorney General has reportedly denied the Israeli offer in its preliminary discussions. “We will be holding meeting regarding the issue again. It is premature now to assume the Israelis will be coming to Nepal in this connection,” dailies said quoting sources.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) is investigating the scam and the father-son duo has been in police custody since June 18.
