A five-day ”observation meeting” between Nepal and India began in Kathmandu on Sunday to discuss the inundations that the embankments constructed by India are causing along the Nepal-India border.
According to reports, the meeting will focus on minimizing the inundation of Nepali territory, specially the loss of Nepali lands in Rautahat and Sarlahi districts caused by the ‘ring embankment’ constructed in Bairgania, Bihar.
Embankment projects along the Bagmati, Kamala, Lalbakariya and Khand rivers will also be discussed.
Shiva Kumar Sharma, senior divisional engineer at the Department of Water Induced Disaster Mitigation leads the Nepali team while J.S. Purba, member of the Ganga Flood Commission is the head of the Indian delegation.
This is the sixth time the two countries are holding discussions on embankment issues.
