Hundreds of students have fled their places after months of closure of private and boarding schools in the western district of Argakhanchi -owing to threats from the Maoist-supported All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary (ANNISU-R).

Several hundred students fleeing the district have enrolled themselves in schools of nearby districts. Reports said more than 600 students studying in various private schools have left the district so far.

Most private schools in the district remain closed since last 15 months. The rebel students had announced the closure after schools managements failed to reduce fees as demanded by their organisation.

Schools in Arghakhanchi remain closed even as ANNISU-R president Lekh Nath Neupane recently announced that his organisation would not pressurise schools for closure.

Reports added that continuous efforts from the Private and Boarding Schools Organisation of Nepal (PABSON), N-PABSON, guardians and local human rights organisation have failed to reopen the school.
