The government is going to receive 3,000 US made M-16 A 2 assault rifles Sunday, the consignment is part of the 5,000 rifles the government has bought from USA, official sources said.

The Royal Nepal Army (RNA) already has 5,000 rifles of the same type, which it has been using in peace keeping missions abroad. The arrival of the assault rifles would contribute to lift the morale of the RNA soldiers as they are lighter and easier to handle.

The government is also waiting for the arrival of 500 sub-machine guns imported from Belgium. The Indian government has already granted permission for flying the weapons to Nepal using its air space.
