The government will come up with a draft on its long-demanded political agenda to be presented in third round of peace talks within the next week, published reports said Friday.

The government “homework” followed a public statement by Maoist supremo Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda on Thursday. Maoists were demanding a political agenda from government side since the first round of talks three months back.

Prachanda in the press communiqué said he and his party were positive towards talks, as the government, following the previous agreement, “released three Maoist leaders and was seen positive on other issues.”

“Constitutional monarchy and multiparty democracy will be the government’s chief political agenda,” Space Time reported Friday. The issue of amendment of the present constitution or adopting a new constitution will be settled after consultation and all-party meeting with the political parties, the report said quoting undisclosed sources.

Among the five agitating parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have been supporting constitutional amendment, whereas, three other fringe parties have been echoing the issue of constituent assembly and new constitution similar to the Maoist demand.

During previous talks, Maoists put forward the political agenda of interim government, round table conference and constituent assembly, among others.
