Ganesh Thapa was Saturday re-elected president of the FIFA, Asian Federation Confederation (AFC) recognized All Nepal Football Federation (ANFA). Seven A division clubs immediately asked the AFC to declare the election by the 10th congress invalid.
Nine members of a 17 member executive body were also elected unopposed. FIFA and AFC representative Harnoor Rashid observed the elections. AFC General Secretary Peter Veleppan in a message to Thapa said: “The elections must be agreed upon by all the three parties concerned in order to legalize the status of the ANFA. If each party goes in its own direction, there will be no solution to the ongoing conflict.”
Similar messages were also sent to ANFA headed by Geeta Rana and Nepal Olympic Committee President Rukma Shumshere Rana. NOC, National Sports Council and the government recognize the rival ANFA led by Rana in a one year dispute that has plagued Nepal’s most popular sport.
Rana ANFA also says it will hold elections for its national soccer body.
