A Nepali agency involved in rescuing mountaineers has said seven French mountaineers – who had been stranded in remote Manang district—are still out of contact while three Nepali porters have been rescued and brought to western town of Pokhara Sunday morning.
Talking to Nepalnews, chief executive of the Himalayan Rescue Association (HRA), Prakash Adhikari, said a rescue helicopter evacuated four Nepali porters this morning. Three of them have been brought to Pokhara while a port has been left behind to gather information about other members of the expedition. He said rescue helicopter would operate other flights this afternoon to locate other members of the expedition.
According to HRA, rescuers haven’t been able to contact seven members of the French expedition who had gone to climb the 6,120 metre-high Mt. Kanguru. Earlier, reports said that French mountaineers and their nearly a dozen Nepali support staff had been stranded at high altitude due to heavy snowfall in the region.
When contacted this morning, officials at the French embassy in Kathmandu said they were not authorized to speak to press. They, instead, advised to contact French Foreign Ministry in Paris.
