Five killed in encounter

At least four Maoists and a security official were killed in an encounter at Jakena area of Arghakhachi district Wednesday morning.

According to reports, the battle started when the Maoists started firing at a security patrol by the Unified Command forces at around 6.00AM.

In the shootout that lasted nearly an hour, four Maoists including two woman rebels and a security official were killed on the spot. The identity of the dead is yet to be confirmed.

Citing information provided by the Regional Police Office in Bhairahawa, reports said a few weapons have been recovered from the militants.

Search operations have been intensified in the area following the clash, reports further said.
