KATHMANDU: At a time when the country’s tourism industry is facing hard days, some foreigners have been trying to give life to the ailing tourism industry of the country.

An Italian journalist and cyclist Marci Banchelli is among such well-wishers of Nepal who wants to see the tourism industry of the country flourishing. Banchelli, who had started his world tour in a bicycle some 10 years back, has started a special campaign titled ‘Emotion Nepal’ for the promotion of Nepal’s tourism destinations.

Banchelli, who has been touring Nepal since the last 20 years and publicizing Nepal as a safe tourist destination in Italy said the tourism sector of the country could be revived through the medium of sports. He said he would try to bring the Italian football team for a friendly match in Nepal to promote sport tourism in Nepal. Banchelli is the only Italian man to have been designated ‘Honorary Member’ of Sports Development Nepal.

Talking to Nepalnews on Monday, Karna Sakya, Chairman of KGH group of hotels and resorts, which is supporting the ‘Emotion Nepal’ campaign informed that the main objective of the campaign is to publicize Nepal as a safe tourist destination.

Shakya informed that Banchelli is among the promoters of the ‘Visit Nepal 1998’ program.
