The alliance of the seven agitating political parties has said that the elections announced by the incumbent government is a ploy to legalize the royal government as free and fair elections were not possible in the country at the present circumstance.
A meeting of the alliance held at the office of the Nepal Workers’ and Peasants Party (NWPP) today has decided to boycott the municipal polls actively.
The meeting also protested the controversial media ordinance issued by the government terming it as a ploy to destroy democracy and expressed solidarity to the ongoing agitation of the professional organizations against the ordinance.
Top-notch leaders of the seven political parties had participated on the meeting.
Stating that the government is active to terminate the three-month long ceasefire announced by the Maoists, the alliance asked people to be aware against the ploy of royal regime.
A press statement issued after the meeting has said that the meeting appealed all to initiate efforts for the dialogue with the Maoists to transform the ceasefire into sustainable peace in the country.
Talking to Nepalnews after the meeting, chairman of NWPP Narayan Man Bijukchhe said that the alliance will concentrate its agitation in municipalities after the Tihar festival.
The government announced elections of all 58 municipalities across the country on February 8, next year.
The alliance is protesting against February 1 royal takeover demanding restoration of full-fledged democracy in the country.
