Eight Maoists killed

Army shot dead eight more Maoists in continuing military operations in three districts Sunday, the Defence Ministry said Monday. Six rebels were killed in Nuwakot and one each in Dang and Salyan, an official said.

The army recovered weapons, explosives and material to set up booby traps from them. Army raided shops operated by rebels in Lam village in Rolpa and distributed recovered materials to the needy, another announcement said.

Security forces also distributed grains recovered from the rebels in Dang Sunday. Army seized eight concealed guns and equipment to make weapons in Salyan.

The army seized a hijacked bus from rebels at Melumchi Sunday.

Vehicular traffic on part of the Arniko Highway resumed Sunday after the army cleared roadblocks erected by rebels in Gyathung in Sindhupalchowk district, officials said.
