KATHMANDU, Jan. 5: The export of cotton towel to the countries of the European Union has decreased by about 45 per cent.
The export of cotton towel has decreased to about 3.6 million U.S dollars in 2002 from 6.4 million U.S. dollars in 1996.
Cotton towel of about 4.2 million U.S dollars were exported in 2001, according to Nepal Cotton Towel Export Association.
Businessmen involved in the export of the cotton towel requested His Majesty’s Government to seriously think of the measures to increase the towel at a programme held here today on the occasion of the third general assembly of the association.
Inaugurating the general assembly Assistant Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Jagat Bahadur Gurung said the government is committed to increase the capacity of the sick industries with the joint efforts of the private sector.
Chairman of the association Jiban Bist requested the government to take necessary step for the promotion of the export oriented industries in the country.
