Security forces have clashed with the Maoist rebels along the Prithvi Highway on Monday.

The clash erupted after the rebels exploded landmines at Fishling of Chitwan district along the highway, targeting the security forces.

The Security forces and the rebels were engaged in a two-way firing for about an hour following the landmine explosion, reports said.

In a similar incident, the Maoists obstructed a convoy of Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) trucks at Chumling- the bordering area between Chitwan and Dhading districts. The rebels attacked the RNA men from the top of the Chumling hill (danda).

The Maoists fled towards Gorkha district after the clashes. Traffic along the Prithvi highway- a major land route linking the capital with rest of the country – was obstructed for one and a half hours.

No human casualties were reported. Security sources in Kathamndu confirmed the clashes, but refused to provide details. nepalnews.com pd Dec 14 04
