A delegation of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China led by deputy commander of Chengu Military Region Command, Let Gen Gui Quanzhi, met Royal Nepalese Army (RNA) chief Gen Pyar Jung Thapa on Sunday.
RNA’s Department of Public Relations (DPR) in a press release said four other senior military officials of the PLA and the Chinese military attaché were present during the meeting at the RNA headquarters. However, no details about the meeting were given.
The Chinese military delegation is in Nepal since last few days to discuss military cooperation with Nepal.
Gen Thapa, who returned from a five-day visit to Pakistan on Saturday, had visited China in October, ensuring Rs 72 million Chinese military aid to Nepal.
Last month, the RNA received 18 truckloads of military equipment including arms and ammunitions from China, according to reports. Although the RNA top brass didn’t rule out the import of the military hardware from China but insisted that most of the consignment comprised of non-lethal equipment.
Along with the United States and the United Kingdom, Nepal’s major military supplier, India, has suspended military assistance to the Nepali army in the aftermath of the February 1 royal takeover.
