Lalitpur, Jan. 29:The Tewa Walk 2000 was organized here today with a view to raising people’s awareness in order to uplift the living standard of rural women.
The walk that started from Patan Gate Lalitpur had the slogan ìlet’s not depend on foreign nations and develop ourselvesî.
The walk had dispersed in Jawalakhel after going round various parts of the city.
The walk included 60 women from 14 countries including America, Holland, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil and Kenya, volunteers associated with the Tewa programme, women leaders working for women’s empowerment, intellectuals and students from various schools.
At the end of the march, Mayor of Lalitpur Buddhiraj Bajracharya said sustainable development is possible only if women’s participation in development work is encouraged.
Member secretary of the Social Welfare Council Dr Tika Pokhrel observed that tewa’s work is becoming exemplary for the whole of South Asia region.
Tewa’s advisor Dr Mohanman Sainju said, that women can also effect social changes is proved by the Tewa.
Tewa’s volunteer convenor Rita Thapa noted that tewa has so far provided grant assistance of some Rs 6 million to 65 organizations.
Tewa chairman Mira Jyoti and programme chief Dipak Dewan also highlighted Tewa’s activities.
On the occasion, Dr Pokhrel launched the book “Alikati Tewa” or a little support published by the tewa and Mayor Bajracharya presented prizes to best volunteers and fund raisers.
Kathmandu, Jan. 29:Minister for Supplies Prakashman Singh gave way certificates to the trainees of a basic photo journalism and photography training amid a function organised here today by the Nepal Photo Journalists Association.
On the occasion Minister Singh said that the journalists give emphasis to positive aspects of the things they deal with.
General secretary of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists Taranath Dahal speaking about photo copy right, pointed out the need to make the department of information of His Majesty’s Government and the rss more effective for the upliftment of this sector.

Advisor to the Photo Journalists Association and editor of the Deshaya Maru Jhya weekly Pradip Man Shrestha expressed dissatisfaction with the negligence of the concerned sectors towards ensuring copy right for photo.
President of the Photo Journalists Association and chairman of the function Niyam Raj Shrestha laid emphasis on the need to collect news together with taking photographs.
At the training held from Push 20 to Magh 6, 21 trainees had taken part in the photo journalism and photography .
The training was conducted by instructors Niyam Raj Shrestha, Bikash Rauniyar, Javed Shah, Navin Shrestha and Miss Sangita Lama.
Dailekh, Jan. 29:Landowners of 17 Village Development Committees have staged a sit-in protest at the land revenue office, Dailekh as the office has not taken any initiative towards resolving the problems pertaining to Guthi lands incorporated in a memorandum handed in to the office on January 12.
The also chanted slogans such as “release the lands on hold” and “fix land revenue on the basis of receipts issued in 2051 bs.”
The problem has emerged because of the decision of the Guthi Sansthan to convert land once registered in the name of tennants back into Guthi holdings, it is learnt.
Since then, the office has not collected land revenue and the landowners have not been bale to sell land or offer it as Bank collateral.
Butwal, Jan. 29:The Nepal Petroleum Products Transport Entrepreneurs’ Federation has decided to indefinitely halt the transportation of petroleum products across the country from February 1.
This was stated at a press meet held here jointly Friday by the federation and the western region Tanker Entrepreneurs’ Association.
They have resorted to interruption of transportation services in response to the indifference shown by Nepal Oil Corporation towards their repeated demands for an increase in fares, according to a press statement released on the occasion.
It further says that tanker entrepreneurs have not increased their fares since 2052 B.S. In contrast to the 85 per cent rise in bus fares during this period.
The circumstances for the strike action have arisen as a result of price rises in diesel, lubricants, tyres and spare parts as well as the rise in bus fares since October 27, advisor of the federation Dhoplal Shrestha said.
The Tanker Association had written to the corporation on october 27 demanding an 80 per cent rise in tanker fares, the association says.
Kathmandu, Jan. 29:DSL Australia today said that the preparations of The Himalayan Expo 2000 to be held in Melbourne from March 28 to April 1 were going on the full swing.
The one country show will have 45 stalls and exhibit Nepalese goods on handicraft, traditional readymade garment, hand-knotted woollen carpets, woollen sweaters, pashmina shawls, thanka paintings, jewellery, herbs and paper products.
Expected to be visited by 20-30 thousand people, the expo will help extend the business relations between Nepalese and Australian entrepreneurs and promote trade and investment opportunities between the two countries, DSL’s Managing Director Devendra Karki told the exhibitors here today afternoon.
Karki said that arrangements were made to make sure that the exhibitors would not face difficulties as the participants.
Kathmandu, Jan. 29: Minister for Supplies Prakash Man Singh has said that the ideals and principles of the School Cooperation Council affiliated with the unesco should be forwarded through schools.
Minister Singh said this while speaking at the concluding function of the second convention of the School Cooperation Council affiliated with the unesco here today and added that the unesco can play a key role in the consolidation of democracy.
Former ambassador Keshav Raj Jha said the council which has the objective of raising the society through education and developing a sense of peace in the mind will play a important role in the strengthening of relations between the Nepal and the unesco.
From the chair newly elected council chairman Ramesh Gautam said cooperation from all is expected to face the challenges of the 21st century.

Similarly the unopposed elected members are Sangita Shrestha, Sundar Pant, Sanu Kumari, Indu Kafle, Meghraj Khadka, Bhagwati Pokhrel. And Arjun Prasad Gautam.
The council holds a election every four years.
It was informed on the occasion that presently there are 65 schools as the members of the council.
Mahendranagar, Jan. 29:CPN-UML, Kanchanpur district committee took out a protest rally here yesterday as part of the party’s protest campaign against price rises.

Speaking at a function organised by parsa DDC to honour the senior citizens of the district on the occasion of the international year of older persons here today, Minister of state shaha said the present government is quite alert to work for the well-being of the elders, disabled, mentally retarded people, women and children.
On the occasion, he felicitated daman das tatma, 109, of Pakaha Mainpur, Mahadaiya Devi, 100, of masiyani VDC and ramkali barain, 100, of sabaidhawa VDC by offering them rs. 2000 and a blanket each.
He also presented blankets to 140 senior citizens of the town area.
A host of speakers stressed the need to provide due respect and care to senior citizens.
