Nepal takes on Qatar in AFC U-23 Qualifiers today Published on: March 24, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal U-23 is competing against Qatar in the second match of the AFC U-23 Qualifiers at the Doha-based Empire Academy on Sunday.

The official kickoff time has been fixed at 9:45 pm NST.  Nepal is under pressure to win the game after facing a 1-0 defeat against Oman. Meanwhile, the starting XI has been made public. Nitin Thapa is replacing Hemanta Thapa Magar in today’s match.

Neymar faces ban for Champions League F-word Instagram rant Published on: March 23, 2019

LONDON: PSG star Neymar is facing a ban after being charged by UEFA over his online rant in the wake of his side’s Champions League defeat to Manchester United, a CNN report said.

United striker Marcus Rashford converted the spot-kick to send the English side through to the quarterfinals as PSG suffered yet more Champions League heartbreak.

The 27-year-old was furious after Skomina ruled that Presnel Kimpembe handled the ball in the penalty area and reportedly had to be restrained from entering the referee’s office after the match.

“It’s just not possible!!! How is a guy going to hold his hand behind his back. Go f**k yourselves,” the Brazilian wrote on Instagram after the match.

Neymar could now face a three-match suspension in the Champions League, according to UEFA regulations.

Nepal satisfies as runner-up for the fourth time Published on: March 22, 2019

 

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s dream to lift the SAFF Women’s Championship has shattered once again on Friday after it faced a 3-1 defeat against its archrival India. Nepal was forced to satisfy itself as the runner-up of the tournament in the final match held at Sahid Stadium, Biratnagar.

India once again became a hurdle for Nepal to clinch the title. Nepal has failed to win against India in the finals of championships it has faced. Nepal has lost all the four finals against the southern neighbor.

On the other hand, India has recorded a historic win after winning all the series of the SAFF Women’s Championship.

Dallima Chhibber of India scored for her country at the 26th minute of the game. Similarly, Grace Dangmei doubled the score point by scoring at the 63rd minute. In the 76th minute, substitute player Anju Tamang extended the gap.

Although Nepal played a dominant game, but could not score and was forced to settle as the runner-up for the fourth time. Nepal’s Sabitra Bhandari scored for Nepal at the 33rd minute of the game through a header within the D-box.

 

State-1 government announces award to Nepali team Published on: March 22, 2019

BIRATNAGAR: The State-1 government on Friday announced it would provide Rs 200 thousand to each player if the Nepali national team won the Fifth SAFF Women Football Championship.

Nepali team is locking horns with the Indian team for the title this afternoon in Biratnagar.

The Council of Ministers of the State-1 government also announced to give Rs 100 thousand to each team member if the Nepali team becomes the first runner-up team.

This is aimed at motivating the players, the government said.

Nepal and India are playing in the final of the Championship today. Likewise, the Biratnagar Metropolitan City has also announced that it would give prize if the Nepali team won the match.

Nepal has entered the final defeating Sri Lanka by 4 goals held at Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Wednesday.

Punam Jargha Magar opened points account by scoring the first goal against the opponent team at the 42nd minute by utilizing a header from Sabitra Bhandari. Likewise, Anita Basnet doubled the score capitalizing on the pass by Rekha Paudel at the 73rd minute.

Similarly, Nepal left Sri Lanka behind with a 4-0 lead after Sabitra Bhandari and Rekha Paudel scored one goal each into the goal post of the opponent team at the 82nd minute and 86th minute, respectively.

With this win, Nepal has entered the final for the fourth time (2010, 2012, 2014, 2019). Nepal is the winner of group A. Earlier, it defeated Bhutan by 3-0 in the opening match and emerged out to be the group winner by trouncing Bangladesh by the same goal differences.

Similarly, India has also entered the final by defeating Bangladesh by 4-0 goals in the second semifinals match held at Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Wednesday. India is only the country who has clinched the title of all the series of SAFF Women Championship.

Nepal, Kuwait friendship match after 19 years Published on: March 21, 2019

KATHMANDU: Nepal is playing against Kuwait after 19 years, in an international  friendship match in Kuwait today. Nepal is playing the first friendly match today. The next match will be played on coming Tuesday.

Nepal’s newly appointed head coach, Johan Kalin said, “Nepal is ready to win against Kuwait.  Head coach Kalin said, “As this is my first task, the two matches will be valuable match experience for me and the team. All young players (U-23) are in the preparatory camp for AFC U-23 Championship Thailand 2020 Qualifiers so there are some new faces in my team. It will be a test for us to see where we are at the moment. We expect two tough games.”

Nepal had played against Kuwait in 2000 A.D under the AFC Asia Cup. In that match,  Kuwait had defeated Nepal 5-0.

Kiran Chemjong, Biket Kuthu, Bishal Shrestha, Rohit Chanda, Ajit Bhandari, Ravi Silwal, Suraj Bishwokarma, Ranjit Dhimal, Biraj Maharjan, Saroj Dahal, Devendra Tamang, Ravi Paswan, Tanka Basnet, Santosh Tamang, Bikram Lama, Bishal Rai, Heman Gurung, Sujal Shrestha, Ranjan Bista, Suman Lama, Bharat Khawas, Bimal Rana, Navayug Shreshta and Ashish Lama are enlisted in the squad of the Nepali Team.

Nepal is three steps down than Kuwait in the FIFA ranking. Nepal is in 161 positions, whereas Kuwait is placed in 158th positions.

KATHMANDU: Nepal has taken a lead 3-0 against Sri Lanka at the semifinal of the SAFF Women’s Championship being held at Sahid Stadium in Biratnagar on Wednesday.

Punam Jargha Magar scored a goal against Sri Lanka at the 42nd minute by utilizing a header from Sabitra Bhandari. Likewise, Anita Basnet doubled the score capitalizing on the pass by Rekha Paudel at the 73rd minute.

The match began at 11 am. Nepal is confident to clinch a win against the group B runner up, with supports from Nepali football fans.

Nepal is the winner of group A. Earlier, it defeated Bhutan by 3-0 in the opening match and emerged out to be the group winner by trouncing Bangladesh by the same goal differences.

Sri Lanka became group B runner up by defeating Maldives by 2-0 in its opening match while it lost to India 5-0.

Similarly, the other semifinal match is being held between India and Bangladesh today itself. It will start at 3 pm.
