26 may, baglung- The Japan Society Binhukot, Baglung has distributed education materials to 600 students of 12 schools in ward nos. 5 and 6 of Kathekhola rural municipality. The support included school bag, note books and pen, as well as first aid kit.
The support was worth Rs. 450,000, according to president of the Society Gaurishanker Subedi. The society is an organisation of Nepali nationals from Binhukot in Japan. It has also established a fund of Rs. 10 million to carry out social works in the village. (RSS)
26 may, hilihang – Property worth more than 2.2 million rupees has been damaged in a fire that took place at a vehicle workshop in ward no. 1 of Phidim municipality. The workshop was run by Dipen Shrestha of ward no. 4 in the same municipality.
Various machinery and tools in the workshop as well as some vehicles undergoing repair and maintenance were gutted in the fire, police said. The fire that began at around mid-night was put out with the help of fire tender and local residents. It took two hours to contain the fire.
In course of the fire, explosion of gas cylinders used to carry out wielding in the workshop had terrorized the locals. The origin of the fire is not yet known, and investigation is underway, police said. (RSS)
24 may, sindhuli – A seven-year-old boy, Manish Shrestha, died due to drowning at Bahrabise of Marin rural municipality in the district on Thursday.
He drowned while swimming in a pool on the bank of the local Marin river. The pool was formed in a ditch resulting from excavation of sand and pebble by a dozer, the Area Police Office Kapilakot stated.
Kalika Construction had extracted aggregates from the river bank using dozer. But the construction company had not leveled the ditch thereby resulting in the formation of a pool there.
Although the construction company promised to cover all the ditches it had made in the river bank while extracting sand and pebbles by mid-April, it has not done so.(RSS)
24 may, Rampur- An intense cleanliness drive was carried out at Rani Mahal, a historic palace based in Palpa.
The palace dating back to the Rana regime remains as the touristic site for both domestic and foreign tourists. Over 40 NA personnel from the NA Gorakhdal Battalion, staff of the Tansen municipality sanitation section, from the Division Forest Office, and those security personnel deputed for the security of the historic monument located on the bank of Kaligandaki River worked together in cleaning the palace Thursday.
The palace and the area covered by it was massively cleaned, said battalion chief Suraj Thapa. Khadga Sumsher JB Rana in 1954 BS had built the palace in commemoration of his queen Tej Kumari Rana.
It lies some 13 kilometers east of the district headquarters Tansen.(RSS)
24 may, kathmandu – Police have arrested six people including Yunus Miya Ansari from the Tribhuvan International Airport while they were entering the airport to collect millions of fake Indian currency.
They were arrested at 9.30 am when they were on their way to receive the counterfeit Indian bank notes that had entered Nepal from Pakistan via Qatar, Nepal Police spokesman, Deputy Inspector General Bishwo Raj Pokharel, said.
Ansari is the person who has been implicated in several similar incidents before this also. Police said the investigation into this still continuing as it involves a large amount of fake currency.
Two Nepali and three Pakistani nationals have also been arrested along with Ansari, Deputy Superintendent of Police at TIA security office, Narayan Ranjitkar, said.
“We have found counterfeit Indian currency notes worth 35 million while counting the amount packed in one suitcase. The amount in two more suitcases is still to be counted,” Ranjitkar said.
Among those arrested along with Ansari are Sopal Khan and Sujan Ranabhat, and Pakistani citizens Mohammad Akhtar Nasiruddin and Najia Anuwar.
The Pakistanis were bringing the money on a Qatar Airways flight while the three others including Ansari had reached the airport to collect the amount.(RSS)
24 may, dailekh-The identity of the three people who were killed today when the mini-truck (Na 8 Kha 3283) they were travelling in met with an accident has been ascertained.
The mini-truck that fell some 300 metres down from the road at Nigal Jhapra, Gurans rural municipality-1 of Dailekh district was carrying food grain and going to Thantikandh riral municipality of Dailekh from Surkhet.
Those killed in the accident are Jor Bahadur Thapa, Dharma Thapa and Deependra Thapa of Thantikandh rural municipality-6, a local eyewitness, Himal Khatri, said.
A police team dispatched to the accident site from Dailekh under the command of Police Inspector Prem Chhetri has already reached to the site. Chhetri suspected that the mini-truck might have caught fire since a petrol jerry can was found in the mini-truck. The back tyre of the mini-truck is all burnt. The white vehicle has turned black.
The bodies of the victims are unrecognizable. The rice and packets of dry noodles that the mini-truck was carrying are scattered here and there on the steep hill slope, according to the locals.(RSS)
24 may, kathmandu – Sharad Sharma Major reconstruction of the historical Durbar High School, the oldest school of Nepal damaged in the earthquake of 2015, has been over, it was shared at a programme organised in the school premises today.
“Main reconstruction work has been over in nine months. Following its full completion soon, students can take classes in a safe environment,” said ambassador of China to Nepal, Hou Yanqi attending the event, adding that China would continue to assist in the economic and social development of Nepal. The reconstruction was carried out with the cooperation of the Chinese government.
On the occasion, chief executive officer of the National Reconstruction Authority Sushil Gyewali praised the Chinese construction company, Shanghai Construction Group, which took up the reconstruction, for completing the project on time.
School principal Hemchandra Mahato said the school educational atmosphere would see a boost in the aftermath of the reconstruction work. Currently, the school runs the classes at Balmiki Campus as provisional arrangements, Exhibition Road. The 2015 earthquake damaged the 162 year-old school building, forcing the school to seek a provisional space for running the classes.
According to National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) central project implementation unit (education) chief, Eim Narayan Shrestha, the total school rebuild project cost is Rs 800 million. The Chinese Government will probably hand it to the Nepal Government by the next seven months. The Chinese Company Shanghai brought the construction materials from China except bricks, project deputy chief Dilip Shekhar Shrestha.
The previous building had three storeys while the new one has four storeys and is equipped with 45 rooms. Now the finishing works including daubing and electrification are awaited. Computer lab, library, drawing room, an auditorium and a dining hall are among the features of new building.
The Durbar High School is composed of Bhanu Secondary School and the Sanskrit Secondary School. A total of 165 students are enrolled in the Bhanu while 250 students are enrolled in the Sanskrit school. . (RSS)
24 may, kathmandu- Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the public power utility, has brought into operation the sub-station it has constructed at Rajapur in Bardiya district.
With the operation of the sub-station since Wednesday, the Rajapur people will now have uninterrupted electricity supply.
Before this, power to the area was supplied via a long transmission line and power supply was erratic. Electricity had to be cut off whenever there was gusty wind and storm due to the long transmission line.
The locals had been urging the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and the NEA to construct a sub-station for reliable power supply since long.
The 33-11 KV Rajapur sub-station was constructed at an investment of Rs 93.6 million by the government and the NEA. Around 20,000 customers in Rajapur area will be benefited from this.
Meanwhile, NEA has also brought into operation a 33-KV capacity transmission line from Tikapur of Kailali to Rajapur also on Wednesday. The transmission line is about 20 kilometres long, NEA executive director Kulman Ghising said.
Before this, electricity was supplied in Rajapur area from an 11-KV transmission line brought from Tikapur.
NEA has recently constructed and brought into operation 220-KV capacity Trishuli-Kathmandu transmission line and the 132-KV capacity Kabeli Corridor transmission line.(RSS)
24 may, kathmandu- The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) is issuing development bond worth eight billion rupees.
In a notice today, the central bank said it is issuing the ‘development bond’ on coming Sunday. The sale of the bond will take place through a bidding model.
Banks and financial institutions, non-banking financial institutions, insurance companies, incorporated organisations and Nepali citizen will be eligible to purchase the bond. It can be used as collateral for taking loans. The interest rate will be half-yearly and tax will be imposed on the achieved interest. (RSS)
24 may, kathmandu- Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen Tham Maya Thapa today stressed the need for bringing the Nepal Children’s Organisation (NCO) under the ministry. The NCO is currently under the Ministry of Home.
Informing that efforts were on to bring bylaws for the effective enforcement of the Children Act, 2075, she said the standards to operate integrated child homes would be implemented, and a child right council, a state child rights committee and a child rights committee would be formed in all three levels, federal, state and local. She was putting her view at today meeting of the Women and Social Committee under the House of Representatives.
She also stressed the need for increasing budget in the sector of women, children and senior citizens.(RSS)
