The Commission for the Investigation of the Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Thursday filed corruption charges against Junior Officer of the Revenue Department, Kedar Prasad Chileshe, at a special Kathmandu court after a five month investigation.
The CIAA has charged Chalishe of amassing Rs.8 million in unaccounted wealth concealed away in the name of his family. The CIAA has sought the confiscation of unaccounted property with a two-year prison term.
Meanwhile, Country Director for Nepal at the World Bank, Ken Ohashi said Nepal’s commitment to reforms should be judged by action and not promises. “As we all know, the CIAA, the constitutional anti corruption body, has begun to demonstrate that with a stronger legal framework and under the new Chief Commissioner, it has real teeth,” Okashi said in a signed article Thursday in a daily newspaper.
Other donors have echoed similar sentiments that Nepal is committed to reforms. World Bank has upgraded its lending programme for Nepal from “low case” to “base case” hiking annual lending from $50 million to $100 million because of commitments to reforms, Ohashi said in the same article.
