Bhutanese exiles of the Bhutan People’s Party Monday elected the organization’s general secretary Balaram Paudel its new chairman in Birthamod in Jhapa, refugee sources said Tuesday.

Paudel succeeds R.K. Budhathoki who was murdered more than two weeks in Damak, Jhapa. An executive member of 13 members elected Paudel.

The main murder suspect is still at large as police arrested eight Bhutanese refugees for investigations. Exiles fighting for democracy in their homeland have demanded an official government inquiry into the murder.

Jhapa is home to nearly 100,000 refugees awaiting repatriation for more than a decade.
