Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has decided to close down all medical services except emergency service across the country demanding investigation and action against the culprits in the incidents involving Lumbini Zonal Hospital and Everest Nursing Home early this week.
The Association has appealed to the Maoists and the civil society to help the government to take action against the culprits.
The Association submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula demanding action against the culprits.
The Department of Health Services Wednesday constituted a five-member investigation committee to probe the incident that took place on Tuesday at the Lumbini Zonal Hospital and present a report within three days.
The Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Director of the Western Regional Health Directorate Dr Padma Bahadur Chand. Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Kedarnath Sharma, Legal Officer at the Department, Keshav Kumar Pandey, Ram Chandra Khanal of the District Public Health Office and former Chairperson of the Hospital Development Committee Baburam Bhattarai on behalf of the civil society, are the members.
Various medical related organizations have condemned both the incidents.
Acting Health Secretary Dr Nirakarman Shrestha and Director General of the Department of Health Services Dr Mahendra Bahadur Bista met the Home Secretary and apprised him of the incidents that took place at Lumbini Hospital in Butawal and the Everest Nursing Home in Naya Baneshwor, Kathmandu. They also requested for attention towards the safety of the health institutions and health workers.
Meanwhile, the Lumbini Zonal Hospital and several other private clinics and health centers of Butwal are also closed today following the attack.
All hospital services, except the emergency ward, have been shut for indefinite period.
A group of people vandalised Everest Nursing Home at Naya Baneshwor on Wednesday morning alleging that a patient died of ‘doctors’ negligence’.
In similar incident, a mob vandalized Lumbini Zonal Hospital (LZH) and two dozen other private clinics and set ablaze an ambulance on Tuesday, alleging that a patient was reportedly killed due to the doctor’s negligence.
