Kathmandu, Oct.15: The main opposition in parliament will organize a demonstration in the capital Sunday afternoon to  protest massive hikes of petroleum products prices effective Saturday, the Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist Leninist) said.

A group of nine splintered left parties also said they will to go the streets in the capital Sunday to protest the hikes. The government Friday night announced hikes in the prices of petrol, diesel, kerosene and LPG cylinders ranging from 17.5 to 100 percent; kerosene price was increased 100 percent. Other parties represented in parliament have also opposed the increases.

Transporters opposed the hikes saying the move will have an inflationary impact increasing passenger and freight fares.

They earlier asked the government to take strong administrative measures to stop hoarding and smuggling of POL products to India which also hiked fares coinciding with increase in prices in the international market. nepalnews.com br
