The World Food Programme (WFP) will extend its food assistance programme for primary school children to five more districts of Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Ramechap, Makwanpur and Udayapur, a FAO announcement said.

The Global Food for Education Initiative (GFEI) is supported by the United States. The programme aims at providing primary educational opportunity to children of the poor and socially deprived of food deficit rural areas. The programme is ongoing in 16 districts since 1996.

More than 250,000 students will benefit from the $5.8 million initiative.
