Traffic has been disrupted in Putalisadak and Chabahil areas in Kathmandu, among others, as police and students clashed in different parts of the city.
According to reports, the clashes took place as police tried to disperse the students who were trying to enforce half-an-hour long ‘traffic halt’ programme organised in protest of the controversial Royal Commission for Control of Corruption (RCCC)’s decision to jail former premier Sher Bahadur Deuba and others on charge of corruption.
At least one policeman was injured as students exchanged bricks with police in front of Shanker Dev Campus. There were no reports of arrests of agitating students as yet.
Nepal Students Union (NSU)—affiliated to Nepali Congress (Democratic) led by Deuba—had called the protest programme demanding unconditional release of Deuba and other detained student leaders.
