A minor was killed and another injured when a stray bomb carelessly left behind by Maoist rebels exploded in Manakot of Bajura, a far western district, on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the reports Thursday, the deceased Lokendra Kami died while undergoing treatment while his sister Shanti is reported to be out of danger in the district hospital in Martadi, the district headquarters. Lokendra was 4 and Shanti is 11, reports said.

Meanwhile, a group of Maoists on Tuesday abducted Khadga Prasad Upreti, former vice chairman of Paurai VDC. The reasons for the abduction are not known.

In a statement, the UML party has urged for the release of Upreti. “We are shocked with the abduction, which is just the opposite of the commitment made by chairman Prachanda,” the UML said Wednesday condemning the Maoist act.

Despite Maoist chairman Prachanda’s recent call to stop attacking civilians, Maoist insurgents have continued attacking on them.
