Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that King Gyanendra has agreed to revoke the Government’s Work Performance Regulations (WPR).

Speaking at a program organized by Tri-Chandra Free Students’ Union in the capital on Friday, Deuba said, “The King agreed to revoke the Government’s Work Performance Regulations as per the recommendation of the cabinet on Thursday.”

Meanwhile, speaking at a face-to-face program organized by the Reporters’ Club Nepal , UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal said that his party was positive about the new development. “I have heard that the King agreed to scrap the Government’s Work Performance Regulations,” Nepal said.

It was necessary to restore the executive powers in the Council of Ministers, he added.

UML had put forth the annulment of the WPR or amendment of it as the main condition to join the Deuba government. With the King agreeing to scrap the WPR, as claimed by the PM, the UML is likely to join the Deuba government.

The WPR was introduced during Chand’s government.
