Addressing combatant and non-combatant soldiers deployed for the road construction there, Gen Thapa said that the Maoist attack on the Surkhet-Jumla road construction camp was anti-people, anti-development and against human civilization.

“They (Maoists) have again proved that they are the biggest enemies of the Nepali society,” he said. The army chief moreover reiterated the army’s commitment to complete the construction of Surkhet-Jumla road section of Karnali Highway.

Maoists had killed at least 40 soldiers and abducted at least 60 army men in a fierce overnight battle at Pili in Kalikot district.
