An indefinite strike called by the Maoists’ student wing, ANNISU-R, has led to the closure of 93 schools in Baglung affecting thousands of students for the past one week, published reports said Friday.

The ANNISU-R called local level meetings of guardians and teachers and said that their move is aimed at pressuring the government for release of their leaders Krishna KC, Gyanendra Tripathi and several others, the Kathmandu Post said.

Earlier, the ANNISU-R activists sent threatening letters to the schools for the closure, which has particularly affected the sent-up exams of the students, the daily said.

“The District Education Office (DEO) has ruled that the Sent Up Test be held by coming February. But, the students don’t know when their schools will resume,” said Bed Prasad Pokhrel, headmaster of Khadag Devi Secondary School. nepalnews.com mr Dec 26
