Hundreds of expatriate Nepalis greeted each other and wished for a peaceful and prosperous Nepal amidst a function in London on the occasion of New Year 2064 B. S.

Addressing the function organized at the Alperton Community School at Alperton by the Yeti Nepali Association, Prof. Surya Subedi—who teaches international law at the Leeds University in UK—said instability in Nepal at the moment was an outcome of division, split, and factionalism over the last 15 years. He said such a situation could be overcome and country could move towards the path of peace and progress through the means of national unity and reconciliation. Stressing on the need of positive thinking, he urged the Nepalis staying abroad to work unitedly for the betterment of Nepal and the Nepalis.

Swami Anand Arun of the Osho Tapoban—who is currently in London to conduct meditation camps—said in the backdrop of widespread violence over the last several years, Nepal now badly needed a new outbreak of peace and unity. He hoped that wisdom would prevail upon all in the new year so as to work unitedly to mitigate sufferings of the Nepalis people and move towards the path of peace and progress.

Senior vice president of Yeti Nepali Association (YNA) Rabindra Kandel, general secretary Rajendra Pudasaini, coordinator of the cultural sub-committee Dhruba Dhakal, President of Nepali Jana Samparka Samiti UK Binod Moktan, Ang Kalijung Lama of the Nepalese Democratic Forum UK, Member of the Nepali Congress foreign department Ramesh Dhamala, representative of the Nepali embassy in London, Rurunu Chapagain, among others, spoke on the occasion and wished all a very Happy New Year.

On the occasion, singer Sapan Rai and artistes Madan Lama, Archana Singh, Pratik Pradhan, Ritu Belbase, Sraddha Bhandari, Chandani Dhakal, Gita and members of UK Sherpa Ghedung presented various Nepali songs and performed variety of dances.

Chairman of the Yeti Association Nepal, Chiranjibi Dhakal, thanked all for their encouraging participation and said there was the need of much closer collaboration among all the Nepalis and organizations of expatriate Nepalis in the UK for the betterment of the Nepali community. He also expressed hope that the peace process undergoing in Nepal would usher the country in a new era of peace, unity and reconciliation.

Various Nepali communities also organized similar functions in different parts of the UK on the occasion of the New Year 2064 BS.
