Activists of Maoist-affiliated Young Communist League (YCL) have set five vehicles to fire in Kapilvastu district on Sunday morning for flouting their district bandh.

Five vehicles including passenger buses were set to fire at around 3 am at Shivapur, Belauti section of the Mahendra highway in the district.

The YCL activists set them to fire after the vehicles, which were stranded since Saturday, tried to move ahead.

The indefinite bandh called by Maoists have affected the life in Kapilvastu district. The bandh was called demanding that a camp belonging to Nepali Army (NA) be shifted from . The camp had been located at the house of one Abdul Mohit Khan – who used to head the local Maoist retaliation committee in the past- in Kudarbetwa of Birpur VDC. The camp has been there since last three years. There are 40 soldiers stationed at the camp.

The Maoists had submitted a memo to the district administration a few days ago demanding that the camp be shifted elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the NA has issued a statement saying the camps stationed in various parts across the country cannot be shifted because of sensitivity of national interests and security.
